Pool Specifications
The current pool is constructed of a steel-reinforced gunnite shell layered on top of the original pool foundation that was laid around 1921. The pool now has following design features:
- A competitive pool with the option of seven 50-meter lanes as well as eight 25-yard cross lanes at the deep end. The depth of this pool ranges from four feet to approximately seven feet.
- A six-foot walkway between the competitive (deep) pool and the middle pool which with a depth that ranges from two feet to three feet six inches.
- A wading pool for toddlers.
- Completely restored and expanded decks all around the pool for improved accessibility.
- A state-of-the-art circulation and filtration system.
Renovation
In December 2002, the FSBC Board of Directors signed a contract with Ted Potter of Aquatic Structures LLC, to renovate and restore the FSBC pool. Ted Potter was chosen based on over 20 years of experience and a solid reputation for work on several other commercial and residential pools in the Charlottesville area. The renovation project was completed in June of 2003.
