FSBC Celebrates 87 Years In and Out of the Water!

FSBC turns 87 this month!  Can you believe we've been swimming since 1921?  To celebrate this 87th birthday we are having a party this Saturday, June 14.  We will have regular hours of operation for members and their guests, but at noon we are inviting the public to see what makes FSBC so great.  The first two-hundred non-members have been invited to swim for ten cents, the same cost as it was when we opened in 1921.  While we have capped the number of non-members at 200, this does not apply to member guests.  Invite friends and neighbors to come, and their guest fees for the day are ten cents as well.

We will also have some other exciting activities to celebrate the birthday.  Local organic donuts from Carpe Donut will be on grounds.  Seize the donut!  As a special evening treat, from 5:00 until 8:00, big band Sentimental Journey will perform outside on the patio.  We hope to see you all here!  Rain Cancels!

beCamp on June 15/16

If you're a geek in or around the Charlottesville metroplex or even if you're merely tech-curious, this is the event you don't want to miss. beCamp is Charlottesville's version of the BarCamp phenomenon—where the participants actually organize and create the conference. Think of it as an open-source geek gathering where you get to decide what goes into and what comes out of the event. It's 24+ straight hours of coding, collaborating, and conversing with people just as juiced about technology as you are. And the venue couldn't be more perfect for such mayhem: the Fry's Spring Beach Club!

BeCamp is hosted by the beTech group at UVA.   BeTech is a self-organized group of web developers around the Charlottesville area that come together to share ideas and promote good practices.

Open House Weekends May 12/13 & 19/20

The pool is currently in the process of being filled.  The grass is cut and summer is coming fast.  FSBC will be holding two open house weekends where everyone is invited to enjoy the club facilities and grounds for free.  The open house weekends will be May 12/13 and 19/20.  The hours for both weekends will be 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM.  Please bring your friends.

Keep in mind that your help is needed to recruit new members for Fry's Spring Beach Club.  You can receive a 10-punch Guest Pass Card when you recruit a new family.  Increasing membership is a benefit to all of us.   In addition to increasing awareness of this great place, the added revenue will help the Club as we seek to improve and maintain the facilities.  Ultimately, more memberships will also help to keep membership costs down for everyone.

Spring 2007 Clean-up Projects

In preparation for the Summer 2007 Fry's Spring Beach Club season, the Board of Directors and General Manager are organizing weekend clean-up projects for the last weekend of March and all weekends in April. This initiative is in response to the very helpful feedback that the membership provided through last year's end-of-the-Summer survey. If you are interested in assisting, we welcome your participation and contributions in any way you are able. We hope to get the club in shape to make this a truly memorable season that will bring new meaning to the club.

Breakfast and lunch will be provided for all who participate

If you are unable to participate in the clean-up day efforts, but would still like to assist in getting the club in shape, please consider making a contribution to the Building Restoration Fund. These funds will be used to make capital improvements and do repair work to the clubhouse. We are currently working to make significant repairs and improvements to the clubhouse to increase the quality of everyone's experience, but we are often faced with problems that we simply cannot afford given membership dues income. Extra contributions through the Building Restoration Fund will allow these repairs and improvements to be made and will allow the clubhouse to become a much more meaningful part of each and every membership.
